This month’s museum feature was especially fun to prepare, a selection of unique pottery pieces by Stangl Pottery. These pieces are quite rare, and are as much a slice of Americana as they are representative of the history of pottery in the United States.Actually, the name “Stangl” was not used until several decades after the company’s opening, even though many pieces of pottery with the “Stangl” name are stamped with the 1805 date.Certainly, the company claimed 1805 as their founding. He left to work for Haegar Pottery in 1915 but came back to Fulper in 1920. In 1942, Stangl started to produce hand-carved, hand-painted dinnerware which became very popular.
Some sources date the opening of Stangl’s precursor, Hill Pottery, at 1805, others say 1814.

Stangl Pottery produced many items including dinnerware, artware and were well known for their line of ceramic bird figurines.
Their most famous product during this period was a water cooler of sorts with a germ proof filter.
Art pottery was produced by the company rather casually in the beginning when Fulper's master potter, John Kunsman, decided to throw a variety of vases and jugs with simple solid color glazes.
